In our parish, the Communion line is a very orderly process and with COVID-19, social distance is in place. We start from the pews in the front and patiently wait our turn as we follow all those in front of us. The communion line is the process of waiting our turn to receive the Blessed Sacrament.
But did you know that almost everything we do at Mass is a symbolic act calling us to look beyond the immediate.
Yes, the Communion line getsus to Communion, but aside from its obvious purpose, we are called to see the Communion line as a pilgrimage.
The entirety of our lives is a pilgrimage toward the Kingdom of God, a pilgrimage from our birth to Eternal Life.
We are called to be mindful that, in everything we do, we should be “advancing the faith.” Advancing toward Heaven – toward the “Heavenly Jerusalem” to be with the Saints and Martyrs who have gone before us . . .
