Homily Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Rev. James L. Nadeau
All of the readings echo the fact that God has called us to a special work. Amos was a simple farmer quietly minding his own crops and flocks. Amos was singled out to be a prophet.
St. Paul, in the second reading, tells us, “In Him we were chosen.”
In the gospel, we see Jesus continuing the tradition of pursuing individuals and singling them out to carry on his work. Not only did He call His disciples, but He gave them instructions.
The same is true for us. God has always called each of us for some special work. There is something God wants us to do.
All of us.
As Christians, we have a noble and daunting vocation. Go out and make disciples. Work in My vineyard. Be fishers of men Be instruments of peace.
All of us.
Jesus even gave us instructions, too: The Bible, Catechism of the Catholic Church, Lives of the Saints, The Rule of life.
Today, I invite you to ask yourselves whether you have a task to perform, a destiny to live for.
Or is the world we live in so perfect that prophets are no longer needed?
