ALL SAINTS DAY November 01, 2022
Be a Saint – what else is there? Lift up our eyes and see where we belong: the fatherland of the heavenly paradise. We are made for our maker. We are here in this life only as a wayfaring stranger, a pilgrim. Or as St. Paul wrote “a resident alien”. We should desire to hurry back to our homeland.
All who are already there will be glad to see us. They long fervently for our presence, so they can greet us and welcome us into their blessed society forever. If we only knew how they thirst for us, how they want us to engage devoutly in the spiritual combat of this life and behave bravely in all the same hardships that they themselves have overcome.
For the Saints who have gone before us faced the same kind of difficulties we face today. If we only knew how they now, with great sweetness, remember the rough and difficult years they once passed. Truly, all suffering would only be easier for us, knowing that the more bitterly we have suffered, the more honorably we are received there. How pleasant that honor will be!
So, let us live a blessed life worthy of the calling we have received, so that one day, we will be welcomed into the Fatherland among all its countless citizens. What a blessed place is our call – so that even the one who is most to us a stranger, there will love us more fervently and faithfully than any father or mother ever loved a child in this world. Let us beg for that day, rejoicing with all the Saints.
