Homily - Nativity of the Lord - 12/25/22 - Fr James Nadeau
December25,2022
THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD December 25, 2022 There is something wrong with our world. Something fundamentally and basically wrong. I don’t think we have to look too far to see that; planes flying into buildings, suicide bombers, war, discrimination, and violence. When we stop to analyze the cause of the world’s ills, many things come to mind. Technology, science, economics – great progress, but the trouble isn’t so much that we don’t know enough, but it is as if we aren’t good enough. Our moral genius lags behind our scientific genius. As we know, all too well, the real danger today lies in the hearts and souls of some who are capable of exploding into the violent hate. The problem is with humans – within the heart and soul.
My brothers and sisters, if we are going to go forward today, we need to go back and rediscover some mighty precious values that we have left behind. To go bak and rediscover the original meaning of Christmas.
Christmas is all about love and compassion. It is not about hatred, discrimination, and violence. He came as the Prince of Peace. He came to show us the way to Heaven. He came to right the wrongs. You are one worldlingering on moral foundations. God has made it so. The universe is based on natural law. That is what the world needs today – people who will stand up for right and goodness. It is not enough to know – we must live it. Not enough to know 2 +2 = 4, we need to know that somehow it is right to be honest and just with all.
That is why Jesus came. He came to show us the way – to show us what was wrong with the world and how to correct it. When we look at all our problems in the world, they will all boil down to religion – what is right and wrong. The meaning of Christmas is to rediscover those first values and live them.
