PENTECOST SUNDAY May 28, 2023
A young lady was basking in the sun on a Florida beach when a little boy approached her and asked if he could ask her a few questions. The first question was do you believe in God? She thought it was odd but answered “yes”. The second question he asked was, do you pray? Again, she answered “yes”. The final question he asked was do you go to church? Her response again was “yes”. So, the boy asked the girl to hold his quarter while he swam. The young boy was checking out her Christian credentials. Today’s reading asks us about our credentials – our unity, oneness, and faith in Jesus Christ. If a little boy walked up to you today and asked for your Christian credential, would you be able to show something?
You see, the challenge before us is clear. We who count Christ as our Lord and Savior are to be one with him and among ourselves – a oneness that mirrors on earth what goes on in heaven, our oneness with the Lord must be visible. People should be able to see it, hear it, touch it. If it doesn’t show, who will even know. If our Christian credentials are not there, how is the world going to know it? To believe? We are the light of the world. A city set as a hill, cannot be hidden.
I challenge you to take a good look at your Christian credentials and if they are not in order, get them in order. Make differences in this world.
