In the year 64, Nero fed baptized Catholics to the lions. Soon after that, St. Lucy had her eyes plucked out. Just outside of Paris, a man named Denis had his head chopped off. And throughout the centuries, we have witnessed the same happen. Did you know the person you are after your baptism is totally different from the person you were before baptism? Before baptism you were spiritually dead. After baptism we are spiritually alive in Christ. We are totally a new person, living a totally new life. Baptism allows us to tap into the Power of Christ. This leads us to ask the question. What happened to many of us? Today, some people are Catholic in name only. Our faith was never meant to be a spectator sport! Where is that energy, that life, that enthusiasm like in the earlier days of the faith? My brothers and sisters, we need to rekindle that flame of faith we all received at baptism to draw life from Christ. For the day has gone by when we can live as compartmentalized Catholics, with our political, business, intellectual, and social activities in air-tight compartments, functioning separately like a well-balanced machine. Catholicism is nothing if it is not a life, unified, coordinated to its end – the building up of the Kingdom of God. Did you know the person you are after Baptism is totally different from the person you were before Baptism? At least, you are supposed to be totally different!
