HOMILY - REV. JAMES L. NADEAU - 12-05-21 SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
December4,2021
Did you know that Jesus is not simply a fringe character in world history? He is the one who alters the world and history forever. Did you hear in the gospel reading how St. Luke places Jesus squarely in the center of World History. This happened. This is a fact. Jesus is the one who alters the world and all history.
Because of Jesus’ impact on the world, the gospel writer Luke divides all of human history into 3 parts:
Creation up to John the Baptist “Period of Israel”
Jesus “The Center of Time”
Ascension to end of world “Period of the Church”
Jesus is the center of time – foundational event – all changed; Calendars A.D./ money – In God We Trust / major universities all founded because of him. This is a fact. Christ is the center of time.
But this is our time – the period of the church. This is where we are this Advent. Christ altered the world when He was born – we are preparing to remember this fact. As we do this, we have to ask ourselves: are we doing our part to continue to change the world and make it better? Are we helping people take off their robes of mourning as we heard in the 1st reading…Jesus came and all history changed. We are disciples; we are called to do the same.
