THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
There was a retired priest in residence, I was his POA. We had to place him in a nursing home. We were cleaning out his rooms ---so much stuff. We tried to put things in order, everything was piled up high. The experience made me downsize.
I think this is a good image for Advent – the season of preparation. Just as we go through all the boxes to “deck the halls”, so we must compliment these with the interior decorations of our soul. In order to do this, since we are limited beings and we only have so much space and energy, we have to make room.
How much interior space and energy do we spend on nursing past hurts, pride – on being right or any other countless replacements for God that the human spirit comes up with.
So, before we deck our souls with the gladness of Christmas – remove the clutter, get things in order, and make room for the important interior decorations of our soul.
