HOLY FAMILY DECEMBER 26, 2021 What is plainly to be seen is what we fail to see
As the Gospel tells us, it was when Jesus was 12 years old that he stayed behind in Jerusalem. Not knowing this, his parents sought him anxiously, but did not find him. Though they searched the whole caravan looking for him among their relatives and friends, he was nowhere to be found. This shows that Jesus is not to be found among his relatives and friends, not among those bound to him by physical ties. Let us learn where it is that Joseph and Mary discover him, then in their company we too shall be able to find him.
They find him, scripture says, in the temple. And so, we too must look for Jesus in the temple of God – we must look for him in the church, among those who belong to the church and are faithful to its teaching. And what is this teaching? What did Jesus say? Did you love your wife? Did you love your husband? Did you respect your parents? Did you visit your grandparents, your sick relatives? Were you a friend to those in need? Did you encourage a culture of caring for all? Mother Theresa once said, “Jesus is our bread of life, we should be Jesus’ bread for his hungry and all in need.”
