2ND PERSON OF THE TRINITY - HOMILY – REV. JAMES L. NADEAU 8/15/21
Jesus, as you know, is the Son of God. He is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. We also know from biblical and eyewitnesses that He shed blood at His Passion and Crucifixion. “Blood and water poured forth from His side.”
We also know by definition and belief – God does not bleed. So, here is my question: From where did Jesus get His blood?
From His mother, Mary! Jesus is true God and true man.
His humanity and all that contains came from Mary.
Think about this – not only did Jesus have a sacred heart but His precious blood poured forth from His side.
Gospels give witnesses to this fact.
St. John Chrysostom: “This blood, when worthily received, drives away demons and puts them at a distance from us, and even summons to us angels. By His blood, Christ purchased the Church.”
St. Paul in Ephesians: “We have redemption through His blood, the remission of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”
St. Maximilian Kolbe: “What miracles! Who would have ever imagined such!”
Pope St. Clement: How truly precious the blood of Christ is. It was poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world.”
Today’s feast is about the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, Mary. After completing the course of her earthly life, Mary assumed body and soul into heaven. This feast is about the heavenly Jerusalem and our place in it. It is about what God did for Mary; it is also a promise about what God will do for us.
Jesus ascended into Heaven because of the power that was within Him.
Mary, a creature of God, like all of us, was dependent upon God’s grace and mercy. She was assumed into Heaven. If we stay true to the promise of the Resurrection, so shall we be.
