FR JIM NADEAU - HOMILY - 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time - 9/27/20
Which son are you most like? the 1st son who said no with his words but later said yes with his deeds? Or the 2nd son who said yes with his words but no with his deeds? Which son are you most like? An important question!
In this gospel, Jesus is teaching us the fact that true responsibility becomes manifest not so much by what we say BUT what we do! So important is this point that the past does not matter in the eyes of God. What matters to Him is the present and our responsible yes to Him . . . eg: the tax collectors and sinners. True Christian responsibility becomes manifest not so much by what we say BUT what we do.
It has been said that if someone tells you what they have done in the last 24 hours - one could tell them what they believe. What we believe should influence what we hold dear to our heart; what we cherish should influence what we do. What we do: Wife, Husband, Children, Volunteers
The overriding theme of the reading is to remind us that deeds must follow words:
Christian life is not just a religious version of everyday life. It is a different way of acting, thinking, playing, working, dealing with others.
