HOMILY - 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time 11/13/22 Fr. James Nadeau
November12,2022
33rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME November13, 2022 All of our readings today speak about the “end times”. So, imagine yourself alone with your guardian angel. Suppose that the angel sets before you on the one hand heaven, full of delights and joys, and on the other hand, hell, will all its torments. Contemplate both, kneeling in your imagination before your guardian angel. Consider also that you are in reality even now, standing between heaven and hell, and that both the one or the other are open to receive you, according to your own choice. See heaven with the beauty and perfection of countless inhabitants of that blessed place. See the Apostles, martyrs, and saints. They all shine with a glory that surpasses all the glory of this world. Consider the other choice. If the itching bite of an insect, or the restlessness of a fever can make ordinary nights seem long and tedious, how terrible will be the endless night of eternity, where nothing will be found but despair, darkness, and fury!
Recognize that the choice you make in this life will last forever in the next. Your guardian angel is urging you with all his might to choose heaven, offering you countless graces on God’s part, and countless aids to attain you. Jesus Christ is looking down on you in loving invitation to come to Him. Behold all the Saints, who have given you their example to follow. Realize that the road to heaven is not so hard to find as the world would have you think. Press on my dear friend, they all cry.
One of Satan’s best tricks, C.S. Lewis wrote, is to convince us that we have plenty of time. But only God knows how much time we actually have; therefore, vigilance is a hallmark of Christian living.
