I must confess – I had a hard time getting started for my homily. I read the readings several times. I prayed. I fasted – but nothing! I said to myself, “I need something big at the beginning to catch their attention. Then reel them in … Nothing!
I mean, what we are about to celebrate is EXTRAORDINARY! It’s SPECTACULAR!
GOD MADE MAN! But . . . what leads up to the feast is Advent. And Advent is really very simple.
A young Jewish girl says a very simple word, “Yes.” And the devil trembles and the angels rejoice. But it was just a simple girl who said a simple word – “yes” to God’s plan. It is hard to believe but the world changed because of her simple yes.
And what about us? Well, it is really very simple, too. It does not take any spiritual acrobatics! Just like Mary, our simple yes to help in God’s plan. Our simple yes to make God’s plan of salvation known to those around us. Maybe it is a yes to . . . . It doesn’t take a college degree . . . just our simple Yes
