IMMACULATE CONCEPTION December 8, 2022
If you had the power to create your own mother, would you make her anything less than a masterpiece of feminine beauty and genius? I don’t think so. What son, if he could precede his mother, would make his mother have any defects? What son would want his mother to be a sinner? Any good son would desire that his mother have the superlative of every virtue: the most kind, loving, humble, gentle, tender, merciful, and compassionate of all creatures. She would have the most of everything good and lovely. She would, in fact, be conceived and born immaculate, having nothing to do with darkness, death, and evil. If we who are human can reason this way, how much more so can God? And this is exactly what God did. This is the feast ay we celebrate today.
And what God did has made Mary blessed for all generations. In fact, Mary is the most painted woman in the history of the world. The name Mary is the most common female name in human history. Every culture in the world has a variation of the name Mary. Truly, she is the most blessed among women. How amazing are God’s ways!
God also gave Mary to us as model: may we too strive to have the superlative of all the virtues and so inherit eternal life with Jesus, Mary, and the Saints.
