This was the question Jesus asked Peter, and it is the question Jesus asks each one of us. Today, despite the tragedies around the world, and pain and suffering, we still have to say “Yes”. Do you still love me?
Death comes in many forms….but so does the resurrection. So, despite pain and grief, we have to say “Yes” to Jesus’ question. We have to say “Yes, Lord, I love you.” Yet, we also have to look at what type of love we have. Are we on fire with the Lord; that is, really in love? Or are we coasting along? Do you love me?
Before Jesus death and resurrection, Peter sort of coasted along. He made mistakes. He was loud. He wanted to be the best. So, he went along with the crowd. But after the resurrection, there was a great change in this simple man. He caught on fire with love. He went around and shared that love with others. Peter realized that we were all one community and shared that love with others. Are we like Peter, on fire with love? So, we can say yes, Lord, you know I love you. Or are we satisfied with a Sunday only faith? Do you love me? Is this a play we do on Sundays? Or are we all one? All in this together?
Do you love me? Do we coast along and not be part of the community? Or are we on fire with love for one another? Because when 1 person hurts, we all feel the pain.
